W. David Nelson is the Rosalyn and Manny Rosenthal Assistant Professor of
Jewish Studies, and Director of the Program in Jewish Studies, at TCU and
Brite Divinity School. He holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from the
University of Virginia (1989), and both a M.A. in Bible and Cognate Studies
(1992) and Ph.D. in Rabbinic Literature and Thought (1999) from Hebrew Union
College - Jewish Institute of Religion. Among his areas of specialization are
early Jewish biblical interpretation, the history and literature of Judaism
in the Greco-Roman period, and Jewish Studies. He teaches courses in both
Brite Divinity School and the Department of Religion at TCU. Prior to joining
the faculty of Brite, he taught at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Nelson is currently researching methods of transmission of early Jewish
biblical interpretation, the development of the Exodus motif in Judaism in
the Greco-Roman period, and the hermeneutics of Exodus for Jewish-Americans
and African-American Christians.
